Gather the necessary equipment needed

Make sure the water supply is disconnected

Disconnect and remove the sump pump

Clean the sump pump and sump pit
Disconnect the pump from discharging pipe and lift it up from the pit. Put it into a bucket or a strong plastic wrap to avoid dropping down of garbage. Rinse the pump with pressure water like with your gardening hose. Then scrap the sludge and crud with the help of a scraping tool. After scraping, clean the pump again with water.

Reconnect the pump
